ROUGHLEYS EASTER RUN
APRIL 2025
After a winter of hibernationālong nights, freezing mornings, and the blur of starting a new jobāI finally made it back to a bike meet.
Roughleysā Easter Run.
ANDREW ROUGHLY IS KNOW FOR THE CHARITY RUNS HE PUTS ON.
The event woulD SEE THE BIKERS MEET UP AT TESCO CAR PARK STOCKPORT, THEN TRAVEL THROUGH TO A TOGETHER TRUST HQ IN CHEADLE.
When I arrived, the first thing that caught my eye wasnāt a bikeāit was a pair of 1950s motors, polished up and parked proud.
The roar of engines and the smell of burning rubber followed.
It was the perfect welcome back.
Felt Good to Be Back
Eventually, bikes started rolling ināthis time, I recognised faces from past meets. It felt familiar, and it was good to catch up.
OZZY
It was nice to see Ozzy again.
Heās a regular at these kinds of events.
I first met him at the Prom Ride Out last year, and since then heād added a few new patches to his jacket.
Heās got an old-school way about himājust getting on with life, regardless of what happens.
Just like that, Iād slipped back into my routine at these kinds of eventsāasking if people were up for a photo. This time, there was no hesitation.
This was gonna be easy.
HELLRAISERS MCC
I watched as a convoy of bikers rode in, a club flag attached to one of the bikes.
It was a group Iād become familiar withāHellraisers MCC.
Iām glad they let me take their photo.
MANCHESTER BLOOD BIKERS
The Manchester Blood Bikers are volunteers who deliver urgent medical supplies across Greater Manchester.
They support the NHS by transporting blood, samples, and vital itemsāfree of charge, out of hours.
yeti
Just like Ozzy, I first met Yeti at the Prom Bike Ride last summer.
He kindly offered me a lift for this event.
As a non-rider, I rely on the generosity of bikers to get me to these meets.
He also identifies as a disabled motorcyclist, and continues to show up and support these events.
Just like thatāvisor down, firm on the back seat, engine startedāand we were gone.
Iād missed this.
It was hard for the locals not to notice us.
The arrival was just as exciting as setting offāeveryone riding in, proud to be part of it.
It was a solid turnout, and the energy was spot on.
andrew and harley roughley
Andrew and Harleyāfather and daughterāwere the perfect team.
They ran the day from start to finish and didnāt stop once.
The event wouldnāt have been what it was without them.
Despite how busy Andrew was, he still made time to stop for photos and shake hands. There was a real sense of respect for him in the community.
THE EASTER EGGS CAME FLOODING IN
This day has shown what bikers do bestāsupporting their communities.
