North West Ambulance Airservice bike run

April 2025

NWAA

This was a base to base bike run, starting out in blackpool and finishing at barton airfield.

I was invited by the mental health motor bike group

“Mental Health Motorbike exists to create meaningful opportunities so that together we grow the greater wellbeing of the motorbike community.

Our ultimate aim is to reduce  suicide amongst bikers in the UK.”

Tony Cheung

A dedicated member of the Mental Health Motorbike team, Tony is known for going above and beyond to promote the team's mission.

His proactive spirit, commitment, and calming, friendly nature have made a real difference.

They were joined by supporters of the charity, including the Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club and Fletchers Solicitors — a firm specialising in serious injury.

The bikers began to arrive, each bringing with them their own unique story.

STEPHEN

I SPOKE WITH STEPHEN FOR A WHILE, HE IS AN ARMY VETERAN WHO SAW ALOT DURING HIS TIME IN THE ARMY AND HAS HAD STRUGGLES WITH MENTAL HEALTH.

He’s now a tattooist.

As the bikes came rolling in, the atmosphere shifted — full of life and noise.

North West Blood Bikes

NWBB provides a professional, voluntary service for the urgent and emergency transportation of medical items, operating completely free of charge outside normal working hours.

A VETERAN

We only spoke briefly—he was an army paratrooper, about my dad’s age. Didn’t catch his name, but I won’t forget his face.

THIS WAS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF WHAT BIKERS DO BEST -

TURNING UP AND SHOWING SUPPORT

Final Thought

This moment stood out to me — a grandmother interested in the bikes, walking the field with her son and granddaughter by her side.

It was a quiet, tender reminder of how far the reach of this culture goes.
